Doutzen Kroes is a goddess. Plain and simple. You could cover the woman in mud and dress her up as Grimace and she would still stop traffic. So naturally, her looking like a mirage posing for renowned photographer Thomas Whiteside in the new edition of French Elle should surprise no one.
Donning the creme de la creme of designer ready to wear and couture (Prada, Fendi, Marni, and Burberry Prorsum), Doutzen is natural, windswept, and effortlessly stunning as she poses against a series of industrial, urban backdrops. Texture was a big theme of this editorial (fur, lace, leather, mesh, beading) and created an intriguing contrast with the roughness of the urban setting and the sharp, structured silhouettes of each ensemble. The vibe of the editorial was a beguiling mixture of ethereal innocence and edgy strength and confidence (love the shot of her leaning up against that ladder with a feline-esque stance and expression). These images definitely are telling trying to tell a story, and Doutzen makes a beautiful yet tough as nails heroine. Love this editorial. It makes me even more excited for Fall clothing (cashmere sweaters, boots, scarves, hats, skinnies – my favorite season for dressing). Doutzen is such a versatile model (although she is mostly recognized for her role as a Victoria Secret Angel) and I hope that we get to see her in more artistic editorials such as this one.
My favorite shot – she just looks so natural and in the moment. And it completely captures my daily morning ritual of tea, laptop and breakfast at Blenz pre-work, which are some of my favorite moments.
