Nicolas Ghesquière to Change the Face of Louis Vuitton | A Reflection on LV

So it looks like Nicolas Ghesquière, the former designer of Balenciaga will be replacing Marc Jacobs as the head designer of luxury label, Louis Vuitton. God knows that I love Marc Jacobs beyond all comprehension both as a designer and as a character (the energy and creativity of that man astounds me. I want to put him in my pocket.) but I have to say I am really intrigued as to what the future of Louis Vuitton is going to look like with Marc out of the picture and Nicolas at the fashion house’s monogrammed wheel.

Nicolas’s approach to design is quite different and much more theatrical than that of Louis Vuitton. Speaking to Vogue on his new position as creative director, Ghesquière says “Louis Vuitton has always incarnated for me the symbol of ultimate luxury, innovation and exploration. I am very honoured of the mission that I am entrusted with, and proud to join the history of this great maison. We share common values and a vision.” . As Marc goes ahead to focus on his own brands and Nicolas takes over the house is sure to change. This is inevitable. I am excited to see what comes next and in the spirit of this change, here are a couple of my favorite shows by Louis Vuitton (avec Marc) and Balenciaga when Nicolas was the creative director.
