There are a million things to love about summer. Sunny days spent lounging on the beach (or by a pool), lighter evenings, the luxury of being able to trade in your socks and shoes for sandals and bare feet are just a few of my favorite things. A low-maintenance beauty routine also makes the top of the list. I tend to go for a more low-key approach to beauty that is still polished and put together. I trade in my BB cream for tinted moisturizer with SPF and my lipstick for a lip tint that makes it look like I just finished eating a cherry popsicle. While I may tone down my beauty regime come June, I still love to play and love to try out new makeup trends. My MO has always been, “new season, new styles”. With that in mind, here are my favorite beauty trends of the season.
This look is the definition of effortless. It’s subtly sexy with an “I just rolled out of bed” edge that I love. Re-create this off-duty model look by lining your eyes with kohl and smudging with a q-tip. Skip mascara and opt for a glowy, even complexion to keep the look sultry instead of sloppy.
Inspired by carnival candy and boardwalk sorbet, introducing pretty pastel shades into your beauty rotation is a sweet way to lighten up your summer look. Mouthwatering cotton candy and gum-drop hues look great on every skin tone and especially pop against a tan. Go all out with a bubble gum pout or stay subtle with lilac rimmed eyes and rosy cheeks.
The 90s are huge right now in fashion and beauty and as someone who grew up in the decade of grunge, supermodels and mom jeans, I couldn’t be more delighted. Emulate Courteney Cox in her early Friends days with porcelain skin, full, defined brows and a matte pout in either mauve or dark crimson. Use lipliner in one shade darker than your lipstick and go just outside your natural lip line to create the illusion of fuller lips a’la Jennifer Lopez in Selena.
Major designers like Louis Vuitton and Marni were showcasing hippie-inspired looks at their SS16 shows – think pretty plaits, subtly bronzed complexions and ultra-thick, fluttery lashes. Though it may look dramatic, this look is super easy to achieve. To get this bambi-inspired look , use falsies on top and mascara on your bottom lashes. Look for soft, natural looking lashes or even individual lashes that you can add to your natural lashline – the goal here is to create a romantic, doe-eyed look, not to look like a Las Vegas show girl. Finish the look with a dab of shimmery white shadow in the corner of your eyes. It’ll make your eyes pop and instantly makes you look more awake.
While it may be a cliche, the old adage “less is more” is often true when it comes to fashion and beauty. This look is all about perfect, glowy skin, subtly defined eyes and tousled waves. Mastering the art of ‘no makeup’ makeup can be tricky and the key is to focus on creating an even, healthy complexion. An oil-free, tinted moisturizer (to prevent breakouts on those hot, humid days) and creamy pink blush will make you look lit from within and dewy. Dab a shimmery highlighter on the tops of your cheek bones, the bridge of your nose, corner of your eyes, brow bones and bow of your lips for an extra glow. Finish the look with a salty hair mist for beachy waves. Instant beach goddess.
