Just in case I haven’t reiterated it enough, fall is by far my favorite season. I love fall fashion – boots, sweaters, scarves, hats. I love the coziness of it, the smells, flavors, and changing leaves. I also really enjoy experimenting with my makeup during the fall. This is the season where I feel like I can be more dramatic with my beauty choices. Merlot stained lips, shimmering eyeshadow, and sultry smoky eyes are my go-to looks this time of year, but I do like to play around and keep things interesting. After scouring through magazines, runway reviews (it is New York Fashion Week after all!), and blogs, these are the five beauty trends that I can’t wait to try this season
Regal and radiant is the name of the game. Inspired by the classic beauties of Hollywood’s hay-day, a flawless complexion, ruby red lips, and defined peepers are paramount to achieving this timeless glamour. I wear red lipstick all the time in the fall and winter because it instantly makes my face look brighter and it lends a sense of elegance to even the most casual ensembles.
A beautiful, luminous complexion is something that never goes out of style, but it has been taken a notch further this season with the introduction of ‘glotions’. Moisturizer always makes skin look healthier and glowy, but these lotions enhance this dewiness even further with light-reflecting particles that make one’s skin look lit from within. Dab on a bit of highlighter for extra impact and some shimmery eyeshadow and you are all ready to shine bright like a diamond.
It seems that we all have been borrowing inspiration from the 90s when it comes to fashion and beauty. High-waisted mom jeans, crop tops, chokers are only a few examples that come to mind (I recently pierced my navel, and that is definitely a throwback to the 90s. I can almost feel my future-self rolling my eyes at my present-self but right now I love it). The decade has also inspired beauty trends – case in point, brown lipstick. I actually love it and find it to be surprisingly flattering against all skin-tones. This season I intend to take this shade even further with complementary shadows, bronzers, and blushes that emulate the colours of the falling leaves.
A little silver and gold never hurt no one. This season, metallics are having a major moment and I am all for it. I have an Urban Decay Naked Palette that is filled with metallic shades that I cannot wait to use. A little goes a long way when it comes to metallics and they can be subtle and office-appropriate if they are applied with a light hand. I would pair a shimmery, metallic eyeshadow with thick, feathery lashes and a nude lip. Another alternative would be to rock a metallic mouth with just a sheer wash of shimmer over your eyelids, and a smudge of eyeliner.
A magenta mouth is the easiest way to make your face look vibrant and polished even if you are wearing no other makeup. It looks great with a tan and pops against a fair complexion as well, making it a great shade to help you transition from fall to winter. While I normally wear bright lipstick with a slick of liquid liner and mascara, it looks incredibly chic with a smooth, even complexion and minimal eye makeup. If you feel like your eyes need a little extra definition, fill in your brows just a touch – it does wonders.
