Sorbet For Days

It’s officially a new season, so it’s time to hit refresh on your winter wardrobe. I don’t know about any of you, but I am dying to replace winter’s dreary palette of grey, navy, and black with sweet sorbet shades that evoke thoughts of delicious treats and carefree days spent in the sun. From pale mint and cotton candy pink to lemon chiffon, pretty pastels are this season’s style indulgence. If the runway shows of haute designers like Emilio Pucci, Bottega Veneta, and Valentino are anything to go by, it’s clear that Spring 2017 will be saturated with candy-inspired colours and lady-like details. And after what felt like an eternity of rain jackets, heavy sweaters, and somber hues, I am more than ready to binge.

Sweet Sakura Dreams

Nothing makes it more clear that spring has finally arrived in Vancouver than when the first few cherry blossoms start to bloom. The streets are lined with rows of pale pink flowers and petals float around the city like falling snow. We still have a few weeks (at least) until these beautiful blooms start making their appearance, so right now I’m bringing spring to me with sakura (the Japanese word for cherry blossom) scented beauty products, cherry blossom decor, and accessories. Wake me up when spring arrives, and until then I’ll be having sweet sakura dreams.

Peachy Keen

With the cold weather and abundance of holiday decorations and music everywhere, most people are dressing in winter hues – rich jewel tones, shimmering metallics, and dark, moody tones. I, however, have been leaning towards softer pastels and neutrals like grey and camel. With the weather being so dreary and dark, I feel the need to surround myself in a softer, more ethereal palette. Pretty peach and nude tones are not reserved for spring and can easily feel appropriate during the colder months. Peach works really well as a neutral and adds a bit of sunshine to an otherwise dark and pared down winter wardrobe. Plus it’s very flattering against all skin tones (there’s a peach for everyone, you just have to pick the right shade). When the ground is covered in frost and the sky is ominous and cloudy, pretty peach lightens things right up. Whether it’s a swipe of lipstick or a cozy apricot sweater, this fruity hue is exactly what I need during these gloomy, rainy days.

Mood: Merlot

My love for wine knows no bounds. White, rosé, ruby red – I don’t discriminate when it comes to the nectar of the gods. The most stylish colour of vino though? Undoubtedly merlot. This rich hue falls somewhere between royal purple and blood red and it is always luxe and sexy. It’s for that reason that I felt like paying tribute to this decadent shade. From fashion and beauty to decor, merlot is one of my favorite colours this fall and I know that I will be wearing it all the way into winter. So without further adieu, sit back, relax, and peruse my curated selection of inspirational images and shopping picks. With a glass of wine of course.

Mad Tea Party

I recently watched the movie Marie Antoinette (starring Kirsten Dunst) and was incredibly inspired by the over the top decadence of the set, costumes, and food (piles and piles of pastel pastries and ornate sugary confections). Fall is just around the corner and while autumn hues are typically considered to be darker colours (mustard, merlot, emerald, cobalt, cognac), I love the idea of transitioning my pastel summer dresses and accessories into the upcoming season. I have never been someone who believes in following the trends or any kind of fashion rules and as far as I am concerned, there is no reason we all can’t wear powdery pink, mint green, and periwinkle blue well into winter. Let us all eat cake.

All Patched Up

With Fall creeping just around the corner, I have been keeping an eye on the upcoming season’s trends and have been perusing through street-style shots and the latest designer collections. Much to my delight, patchwork has been a common thread through many of the collections for Fall.  Distressed, deconstructed styles made from denim and kitschy quilted garments have dominated the runways for designers such as Moschino and Christopher Kane. It pays homage to the 70s obsession that is currently going on within the fashion industry, but it’s still fresh and modern. And it’s eco-friendly! You know what to do with those worn out pieces that you are no longer feeling. I love patchwork because it is incredibly versatile. It can be subtle and sophisticated in office-appropriate muted colours (think a champagne silk blouse and tan leather patchwork pencil skirt) or loud and boisterous in 80s-inspired neon hues. I especially love the idea of pairing a chunky, oversized patchwork sweater with patched denim and suede ankle boots. It’s Raggedy Ann meets runway couture. Hello Fall, you may make your entrance now.

Mediterranean Villa

Have any summer trips planned? If you are anything like me, you constantly feel the need to travel and explore, experiencing the sights, smells, tastes and cultures of different countries and cities. Right now I am day-dreaming about spending the rest of the summer nestled in a rustic villa in the Mediterranean with a sangria in hand. Since my schedule won’t allow me to take such a vacation, I have curated a collection of items that capture the stylish essence of the Mediterranean. Sun, surf, architecture and amazing fashion are all I need. Oh, and a margarita.
