Haunted Forest

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays and come October I find myself continuously reaching for darker hues and gothic-inspired fabrics, patterns and details – think skulls, lace, decadent brocade and metallic hardware.  While I almost never wear orange around Halloween (too expected and cheesy), I do like wearing spooky colours. My favorite hue this month? You guessed it – forest green. It makes me think of abandoned castles, tragic medieval princesses and foggy haunted forests. It’s also much more universally flattering than pumpkin orange and works great as an unexpected neutral. Wear it from head to toe, as an accent accessory or introduce it into your beauty routine! Take it from me, a smudge of shimmering emerald eyeliner will make your gaze positively mesmerizing! Moody yet magnetic, I don’t know about you, but I’m totally seeing green this Halloween.

Trip To Tahiti

trip-to-tahiti-tropical-moodboard
Everyone has a dream vacation waiting at the top of their bucket list. For me (and my boyfriend Chris), Tahiti is the end all be all of tropical trips. It’s extremely expensive and takes ages to get there from Vancouver though, (several transfers and over 24 hours of travelling) so that’s why I haven’t already crossed it off my list. One day I know we will finally make it to this breathtaking place, but until then I have my daydreams and Pinterest boards to tide me over. If I were to magically win a full-expense paid vacation to Tahiti, these are the ten beauty and fashion items that would be in my suitcase.

Daisies For Days

One of my favorite things about summer is the way that daisies start popping up everywhere. Even the most unkempt of fields are made beautiful by a smattering of these white and yellow flowers. I’ve always loved daisies but have become more obsessed with them as of late, and have taken to wearing jewelry and accessories that are covered in them. There is something about them that just makes me feel happy. Not to sound insane, but they look like they are smiling. They are like happy, cartoon flowers. If I was a flower, I would be a daisy. In my opinion, every day should be filled with daisies, whether they’re decorating your garden or your body.

Block Party

colour-block-fashion
Hey you. Yeah, you. t’s time to get out of neutral. Because you know what goes best with bright colours? Other bright colours. Embrace your inner Lisa Frank and go colour crazy. Fuchsia and lemon? Yes! Tangerine and turquoise? Why the heck not? Colour blocking is a styling technique that can instantly hit refresh on your entire wardrobe. You know that pink top that you always wear with those safe (aka snooze-worthy) black trousers? Well it looks like new when you pair it with a lime green mini! I don’t know about you Dorothy, but I’m read to leave Kansas and pop into technicolor.

Mad Tea Party

I recently watched the movie Marie Antoinette (starring Kirsten Dunst) and was incredibly inspired by the over the top decadence of the set, costumes, and food (piles and piles of pastel pastries and ornate sugary confections). Fall is just around the corner and while autumn hues are typically considered to be darker colours (mustard, merlot, emerald, cobalt, cognac), I love the idea of transitioning my pastel summer dresses and accessories into the upcoming season. I have never been someone who believes in following the trends or any kind of fashion rules and as far as I am concerned, there is no reason we all can’t wear powdery pink, mint green, and periwinkle blue well into winter. Let us all eat cake.

Over The Rainbow

Juicy tropical hues have me inspired this season. Summer is the time to stow away those neutrals and make room in our closets for those bright and bold styles that lift our moods and make heads turn. From cherry red and aqua blue to lemon yellow, it’s time to embrace the rainbow.
